Thoughts on Championship Saturday
Lee Corso thinks that LSU deserves to go to the Rose Bowl over Penn State should USC or Texas fall today ad LSU beats Georgia. Need he be reminded that LSU lost to worst Tennessee team in almost two decades at home and narrowly escaped Arkansas at home to win the SEC West?
Texas should have an easy time with Colorado. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Buffaloes keep it close early on but at some point Colorado will make that critical mistake that turns the game into a blow out. Vince Young will have a chip on his shoulder after a regrettable performance against Texas A&M last week. A dominating performance could win him the Heisman.
UCLA will be ready to play. They have had three weeks to prepare and have three weapons on offense with QB Drew Olsen, tailback Maurice Drew and TE Marcedes Lewis. They're all well rested and this is their Super Bowl. A win could push them into a BCS bowl. The Trojans will be looking to impress pollsters after their close call against now not so stellar Freson State two weeks ago.
Virginia Tech SHOULD beat Florida State by a couple of touchdowns. Bowden will make sure that the Seminoles show up and they will give the Hokies a game. Miami exposed Virginia Tech's defense in their 27-7 win a couple of weeks ago. Drew Weatherford needs to step up and play mistake free for FSU to have a chance. I think he plays well but it won't be enough from the Seminoles geting their fourth straight loss.
Georgia and LSU should be a great defensive battle. D.J. Shockley is more athletic than LSU's Jamarcus Russell and can make more plays. However, LSU has stepped up in the big games this season, beating Alabama and Auburn. Georgia dropped the Cocktail Party to Florida, though without Shockley, and they lost at home to Auburn. This should be a fun one to close out a great day of college football.
Predictions:
West Virginia over South Florida 38-21
Southern Cal over UCLA 45-42
Connecticut over Louisville 24-21
ACC Championship Game- Virginia Tech over Florida State 28-21
Big 12 Championship Game- Texas over Colorado 35-17
Conference USA Championship Game- Central Florida over Tulsa 38-28
SEC Championship Game- Georgia over LSU 17-14
